Seumas Coyne

Seumas started playing bagpipes at the age of 3, and turned professional by age 12. He was taught by his father, James J. Coyne, as well as Angus Mackay, Jimmy McIntosh, Murray Henderson, Jack Lee, Tom McAllister Jr. and J.K. McAllister. Seumas has played with successful bands including Shotts & Dykehead (Scotland), St. Mary's District (Australia), Simon Fraser University (Canada), City of Washington (USA), and the Los Angeles Scots (USA). He has been Pipe Major of the City of Glendale, Chicago Caledonian, and the James J. Coyne Memorial Pipe Band. Seumas also uses his many years of prizewinning experience to educate players through the James J. Coyne Memorial School of Piping & Drumming, named in honor of his father and the parent organization to the JJCMPB. He is an A-Panel adjudicator with the Western United States Pipe Band Association for solo and band piping, ensemble and piobaireachd. In 2008, after many years of work in composing, compiling and editing, Seumas has released the first collection in his multi-book series of original compositions for the bagpipe.
