Allison was a Royal Scottish Country Dancer, starting in 1981, and has performed with the Ar Doigh demonstration group. She also competed as a heavy events athlete for a short time. In 1986, Allison began her tenor drum career with the Prince Charles Pipe Band, playing in both their Grade 3 and 2 bands, and later played with the City of Sacramento Pipe Band. From 1997 to 1999, she played with Alameda County Sheriff's Pipe Band and competed with the band at the Northern Ireland Championships, where they placed second, and the World's in 1999. Allison began playing with JJCMPB in 2002. Allison has competed in solo tenor drumming at all the major contests in California and has served as an instructor for many pipe bands including the San Francisco Irish Piper's Pipe Band, Alameda County Sheriff's Pipe Band, Piedmont High School Pipe Band, and numerous individual players.
